On Sunday 21st September, The Mitre was buzzing with energy as we hosted our Charity Quiz Night in aid of Alzheimer’s Society. With 16 teams of 4–6 people filling the pub, the atmosphere was electric—full of laughter, friendly competition, and a shared commitment to supporting a cause close to many hearts.
By the end of the evening, we were proud to announce that together we raised an incredible £1,170.31 through quiz entries and our ever-popular raffle draw. Every penny will go directly to Alzheimer’s Society, helping fund vital research and support services for those living with dementia and their families.
Community Spirit in Action
One of the highlights of the night was the raffle, which wouldn’t have been possible without the generosity of our local businesses and supporters. Their contributions made the prize table a real showstopper, and we’re deeply grateful for their kindness.
A huge thank you to:

We’d also like to give a very special thanks to Jo Sadler, who not only ran the raffle on the night but also reached out to local businesses to secure such a fantastic range of prizes.

Quizmasters Extraordinaire
Of course, no quiz night would be complete without the people behind the questions. Our heartfelt thanks go to Karen Cockerill and George Higgins, who did a brilliant job as quizmasters. Their energy, humour, and perfectly pitched rounds kept the competition lively and the teams on their toes all evening.
More Than Just a Quiz
While the quizmasters kept everyone guessing with rounds that tested knowledge, memory, and teamwork, the real victory was the sense of unity in the room. Friends, families, and neighbours came together not just to compete, but to make a difference.
Events like this remind us why The Mitre is more than just a pub—it’s a hub for community, connection, and collective action.
Looking Ahead
We’re thrilled with the success of this event and already looking forward to hosting more charity nights in the future. Whether it’s quizzes, raffles, or live music fundraisers, we’ll continue to do our part in supporting causes that matter.
From all of us at The Mitre, thank you to everyone who joined us, donated, or supported in any way. Together, we’ve proven once again that when our community comes together, amazing things can happen.
